About me
I am a k-2 music teacher by day, but I write picture books, lead a local council of NCRA, and host a multimedia blog spotlighting picture books with musical connections outside of school. I am passionate about literacy, music, and nature. I am National Board certified, with an M.Ed in Early Childhood Education, and I have 25 years of teaching experience (2nd grade for 17 years, and k-2 music for 8 years). I am actively involved in NCRA (NC Reading Association) and CCNCRA (Columbus Council of NCRA), SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators), Julie Hedlund's 12x12 picture book challenge, and several writing critique groups. I volunteer at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville, and love integrating science, nature, and music into the books I write for kids, and into my music lessons! I'm always thrilled to talk about kids' books, K-2 education, music, reading, cooking, birds, herbs, animals, plants, and more!
